Niamey Niger Intercontinental Hotel

The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a framework agreement with Aleph Hospitality to develop 10 franchise hotels, the first of which will be opened in Nigeria's capital Nairobi. The hotel will appeal to both locals and international travellers, with four restaurants and a stylish bar on offer, and the newly built property is run by Ale Phhospitality.

Overlooking a majestic waterfall, Ekaabo, the hotel's all-day restaurant, serves a mix of Nigerian and international cuisine, while Milan serves modern Italian cuisine. Guests can choose from a variety of healthy lunches and dinners and relax in a relaxed atmosphere next to the hotel's Zen garden.

The capital of Kinshasa is Kolwezi, an important copper and cobalt mining centre located in the east of the country, just a few hours drive from the city centre. It is also bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, where about 1.5 million people live.

MDA will expand its presence in Africa over the next five years with the opening of two new hotels in Kinshasa. The Radisson Hotel Group will open two more hotels by the end of the year, and the Radisson Blu Hotel Casablanca will also open in November, bringing the group to the city for the first time. Both hotels are scheduled to be completed in 2019, followed by Best Western Westlands, which is scheduled to open in Nairobi in the fourth quarter of 2019, and another under construction. Over the next five years, the hotels will be included in the list of the world's largest hotel chains with more than 1,000 hotels worldwide.

Accor has signed an agreement to bring its mid-range Novotel brand to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by the end of 2019.

IHG expects to hire 90,000 additional employees in its plants over the next few years. This brings the Group's Africa portfolio to 130 hotels with over 23,000 rooms, bringing it to 1,500 hotels and 1.5 million rooms by 2022.
